Dr. Bonimy-Lee, the owner of Viva Physio & Wellness, is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Bahamas Association of Physiotherapists (BAPT). Her interest in the way the body moves started with gymnastics classes in 6th grade. She was fascinated by the complex execution, the visible grace and strength delivered through repetition and dedication.
In 2007 DeVonnia received the Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Seton Hall University and "Learned the Art and Science of Caring".
Dr. Bonimy-Lee is 1 of 433 therapists certified as a Pelvic Health Clinical Specialist (WCS) in North America and is the only WCS in the Caribbean. Following matriculation, she worked at the premier hospitals for Cancer, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Rehabilitation, NYU Langone Medical Center / RUSK Institute in New York City as a licensed Physical Therapist, during which time she developed a genuine compassion for patients living with the long term effects of cancer treatment. She specialized in Pelvic and Abdominal health while working in the Oncology and Pelvic health setting and sat for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS-WCS) Certification in 2015.
Other Certifications include: Lymphedema management of Head and Neck, Certified Lymphedema Therapist; recognized by the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA). Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an integral part of the Complete Decongestive Treatment protocol for lymphedema. In this field, she had the honour of having her case study on Abdominal Perineal Resection displayed at the National Lymphology Conference in 2014. Dr. Bonimy-Lee continues to develop her knowledge and breadth of skills, staying current with standard practice protocols specific to patient care.
Since 2007, Dr. Bonimy-Lee has worked in the U.S., Australia and The Bahamas and enjoys translating her knowledge about pelvic health and lymphedema to patients from all backgrounds. In 2010, DeVonnia became a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, a practice that she translates into a holistic vision of Physical Therapy & Wellness, including diet, lifestyle, activity and mindfulness. By learning to incorporate different aspects of this tradition into a patient's daily routine, simple milestones can be achieved and a path to wellness can be constructed.
During her spare time, she practices yoga, plays tennis, bikes and plays on the beach with her husband and 2 children.
Viva Physio & Wellness opened in May 2017.
